Ta Prohm

Ta Prohm is another Angkor region temple complex that dates back to 1186. It has become on of the most visited temple complexes since the Angelina Jolie movie "Tomb Raiders" was filmed there. Ta Prohm is unique because it has been left in much the same condition as when it was found with trees growing out of the ruins set in the surrounding jungle. UNESCO added it to the World Heritage List in 1992. The whole complex setting gives one a true atmospheric feeling of stepping back into an ancient civilization and perhaps having the chance of discovering something new as an explorer.

Enjoy the pictures.

They asked for volunteers to help hold up one of the structures and guess who was up to the challenge?

Look closely and you can see a stegosaurus carving in one of the reliefs. It is theorized that they must have found a fossil while quarrying the stone and armed it into the structure.

To wrap up our day of overwhelming vista to the ancient temples of Angkor, we went back to Angkor Wat to sit along the moat and watch the sunset reflect on the magnificent temple. We enjoyed a little rice whiskey and some grilled cobra strips along with some water buffalo jerky and frog legs. Cheers everyone!

Grilled cobra. It tasted really good.

The next morning we got up at 4 to go out and watch the sunrise. Great way to start your day!

That concludes my visit to the Angkor region. It was an amazing experience and one that I will never forget.
