Antarctica - Journey Begins

Wednesday, January 19, 2017

We spent the morning visiting the Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire) National Park. It is Argentina's only coastal national park.

A string of sea kelp.

An Austral parakeet really blends in with his surroundings.

Unidad Postal Fin Del Mundo - The proclaimed southern most post office in the Americas.

Inside the post office.

We enjoyed a traditional Argentine asado de cordero (lamb barbecue)) lunch.

After lunch we headed back to Ushuaia to board the ship. e took a group picture before going to the ship.

The bus drove directly out onto the pier to take us to the ship.

The ship's crew members were waiting to welcome us aboard.

Ship's Log: After a particularly beautiful Ushuaia day, the wind remained almost balmy as everyone boarded the M/V Corinthian to begin our Antarctic adventure. Soon after checking into everyone’s cabins we took care of the important things first – the Mandatory Safety Drill and training. After 7 short blasts and one long blast on the PA system, passengers joined ship’s crew in the main lounge for instructions and to model their snappy orange life jackets before assembling to their lifeboat muster stations.

My cabin suite was very spacious and comfortable.

There was a huge walk-in closet.

One of the emergency submersible escape vehicles.

During dinner the ship left the port and we began our journey by navigating through the Beagle Channel.

The Journey has begun!!!!
