Lima - Miraflores area

Spent some time today walking around the Miraflores area. This is one of the more affluent areas in Lima and it felt totally safe. They had some tree lined walkways between the streets.

There were a lot of people out on this wonderful afternoon enjoying the beautiful parks.

Notice all the cats. A few years ago the city officials brought in cats to help control the rodent problem that was getting out of hand. Well, the cats began to multiply and people started just bringing cats that they didn't want and dropping them off. Today, a group catches them and takes care of the reproduction part (snip snip). They also feed them and will adopt them out to someone who wants to care for them. There was easily over a hundred evident in the downtown area.

This is the government building.

We went to a local restaurant for lunch.

I had a dish called Causa de pollo y verduras (basically mashed potato dough wrapped around a chicken stuffing). Absolutely delicious!!!

The main course was roast with mashed potatoes (yeah they eat a lot of potatoes here) and vegetables.

After lunch we walked down to the coastal area. There are some high cliffs that overlook the beach. There is a huge mall built on the cliffs but from the upper street level the mall roof serves as a park area.

This is one of the large Catholic churches located in town.

There was a group dancing in the park and enjoying their Sunday afternoon. Always enjoy mingling with the locals.

Nan bought a small painting from this artist set up in the park.

Well, I have an early departure time in the morning to fly to Iquitos and head up the Amazon River. Since the first couple of nights I am staying in a lodge with no electricity there will be no postings. Will resume my uploads when possible.
