Great Barrier Reef

Today we took a high-speed catamaran out to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. I got off on Green Island which is a 6,000 year old coral cay located in the inner reef. There were some beautiful coral and fish to see. Wish I had an underwater camera because the pictures just don't do the beauty of it justice.

The first thing I did was take a helicopter ride out over the reef. It was amazing to see how far out the reef stretched. The crystal clear blue water allowed us to see some of the coral even from the air. The ride was thrilling.

Later I went out in a glass bottom boat. We were able to see some different types of fish and coral. Again the pictures just don't portray the beauty that was there.

Arriving at Green Island

The boat dock from the air.

You can see how clear the water is and the coral underneath. The barrier stretches over 1,240 miles.

You can see the heli-pad on the left as we were coming back.

Next was the glass bottom boat.

Again, the pictures aren't the best but will give you some idea of what we could see.

Tonight some of us are going to the Night Market in town. They only open the stores after 5. It should be interesting.
